Who AM I

Karma Brooks grew up in Alameda California. She went to Clark Atlanta University but transferred to San Francisco State University to major in Studio Art with a concentration in digital media. Art, for her, has always been a passion.

In each piece she creates, the subjects are often depicted with their eyes closed, gazing away, or looking upward. This choice reflects the complexity of inner strength—powerful, yet sometimes hidden. Surrounding colors play a central role in her work: vibrant, dark, or warm tones mirror the emotions my subjects may be reluctant to show outwardly. While they may appear calm and composed on the surface, the atmosphere of color reveals what lies beneath—happiness, sadness, worry, or stress.

Through this visual tension between stillness and emotion, she invite viewers to reflect on the unseen feelings we all carry, and how strength often exists alongside vulnerability

Artist Statement

Art, for me, is both a passion and a language—a way to express myself and communicate emotions that words alone cannot capture. Working in digital media allows me to create pieces that are colorful and striking, using the versatility of the medium to bring energy and depth to my work. I transitioned from traditional art to digital because it offered me greater freedom to experiment with color and emotion.

In each piece I create, my subjects are often depicted with their eyes closed, gazing away, or looking upward. This choice reflects the complexity of inner strength—powerful, yet sometimes hidden. Surrounding colors play a central role in my work: vibrant, dark, or warm tones mirror the emotions my subjects may be reluctant to show outwardly. While they may appear calm and composed on the surface, the atmosphere of color reveals what lies beneath—happiness, sadness, worry, or stress.

Through this visual tension between stillness and emotion, I invite viewers to reflect on the unseen feelings we all carry, and how strength often exists alongside vulnerability
